Caraways New Steamers Are One Of The Only Food ‘Gadgets I Keep In My Kitchen—Heres Why

As an amateur home cook, I'm always the last to catch cooking trends. But don't judge me... I don't have a frying pan yet. I don't own a pressure cooker or a sous vide and literally just last week I bought my first garlic press at Marshalls. Progress!

Suffice it to say I'm an old school "only the essentials go" girl. I believe in good cookware, which is why I invested in Caraway's popular non-stick cookware a while ago. (And yes, that's pretty cool, according to the Internet.) But other than a high-quality pot and pan and some nice baked goods, I don't own a lot of food-related stuff. This includes a regular steamer. Until recently, when I needed to eat vegetables, I always made a MacGyver-style steamer using a large pot and pasta strainer, which worked well at night. And then I got my hands on Carraway's new Steamer Duo ($120) and my whole world changed.

Jira Steam Duo - $120.00

The Duo Steamer has a large and small steamer for the Dutch oven and roaster respectively.

Okay, maybe a little dramatic, but my culinary world completely changed when these beautiful steamers shed light on something I've been missing for so many years: perfectly cooked broccoli, hot and sometimes cold cucumbers, fresh and juicy shrimp. yum

In keeping with Carraway's clean design ethos, the steamers are designed to complement the brand's existing pots (sold separately): Dutch Oven ($135) and Sesame Bowl ($115). This makes storage easy as you can easily fit each pan inside, freeing up cupboard space to store other kitchen utensils and gadgets. When you're ready to steam, simply fill the pot with water (about 1-2 inches), insert the appropriate steamer, fill the steamer with your preparation, and cover the pot with the lid. . Easy, casual, cute… steamed broccoli, blanket girl!

Speaking of steamed broccoli, I decided to try these steamers. Because yes, they were nice and yes, they were delicious, but what about cooking?

To test this, I pulled out my Cummins dutch oven, poured some water in, and fired up the oven. Then I put the steamer on the rack so it fits nicely; When it's inside, it's like an extension of the frying pan. Then I cut up the fresh broccoli and put it in and cover it. Six minutes later, I had the broccoli perfectly cooked, with perfect color, texture and flavor. (with a pinch of lemon and salt of course).

I immediately noticed how easy it was to take the steamer out of the pot thanks to the stainless steel handles on both sides of the body. When I'm done, I empty the entire bin, putting the broccoli on a plate before going to the sink. The stainless steel handles are durable and don't transfer heat, so you don't have to worry about burning yourself if you pick them up without a tea towel or baking mat.

And while broccoli isn't the messiest dish to make, I appreciate how easy it is to clean the steamers afterward. A simple wash with soap and water did the trick. The stainless steel body is coated with a special non-toxic ceramic coating that makes it easy to wash dishes. It's non-stick like pots and pans, so you never have to worry about crusts or food sticking. The coating is completely non-toxic, so you don't have to worry about toxins or chemicals getting into your food while steaming.

One of the best features of this "tool" may be its versatility. Do you have fresh produce to wash? Please fill in here. Do you prefer pasta or rice? It also works as a colander. One gadget, several ways to use it.

If you're like me and on the lookout for trendy kitchen gadgets, or are the first to spot food trends you see on TikTok, these steamers deserve a spot in your kitchen. The only downside is that they are technically compatible with caraway cookware (which should have a place in your kitchen if you can manage it). The steamer that *never* matches your other pots and pans...) Find your Duo Steamer here or buy each one below.
