If you want to get a copy of Adobe InDesign for Mac and don't know how or where to download it, this article has everything you need to know. We also found out if you can get InDesign for free.
What is Adobe InDesign?
When you're here looking for ways to get software, we assume you already know what it is. But if that's not the case, here's a quick summary of what the software has to offer. InDesign is Adobe software for designing layouts for magazines and other publications. You can compose brochures, newsletters, posters, and of course longer magazines, all with powerful tools to make things interesting and professional. It comes with plenty of tutorials to get you started, as well as 100GB of online storage for your creations.
Can I get InDesign for free?
Adobe offers a free 7-day trial that lets you test the plan to see if it's what you're looking for. And it gives you access to the full version rather than the feature-limited version, so it's worth checking out even if you plan to buy the software later.
To get a free trial, go to the InDesign page on the Adobe website (UK page here) and select 'Free Trial'. You'll need to create or sign in to an Adobe account to use the software, but it's easy as long as you're paying.

How much does InDesign cost?
If you wish to continue using the full version of this software, you will need to subscribe to one of Adobe's various subscription levels. Gone are the days when you received a bunch of copies of software and held them for years; now adobe requires monthly payment. If that sounds intimidating, take comfort in the fact that the software receives regular updates and any new features are immediately added to your version of InDesign. This is a good part of the subscription approach.
At the time of writing, the standalone price of InDesign was $20.99/£19.97 per month if you signed up for an annual subscription. (Total $251.88/£239.64.) If you're willing to pay for the whole year in advance, the fee is slightly lower: $239.88/£238.42. There's also the option of a permanent monthly subscription, which you can cancel at any time, but it costs an extra $31.49 / £30.34 per month.
Alternatively, if you want to use other Adobe products with InDesign, a Creative Cloud subscription (here UK site) provides access to a wide range of Adobe software, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and Acrobat Pro. Typically, these one-off plans are priced slightly higher, at $54.99 / £51.98 (annually, paid monthly), $599.88 / £596.33 (annually, prepaid), or $82.49 / £7898 (monthly, cancel) with an ongoing fee. anytime).

Is there a student discount for InDesign?
yes Student and teacher subscriptions offer significant discounts compared to regular pricing. You can't get an InDesign subscription, but Adobe dropped the price from the Creative Cloud tier, so it's actually cheaper than paying for the individual software. With a discount you can get Creative Cloud (with over 20 software titles, including InDesign and Photoshop) for $19.99 / £16.24 (annually, paid monthly) or $239.88 / £196.30 (annually, prepaid).
Where to buy InDesign?
You can purchase and download InDesign directly from Adobe. (Here's the UK site.) You can also try Adobe's Amazon site, although the prices are the same at the time of writing.
Are there any good alternatives to InDesign?
If you don't feel like pledging allegiance to Adobe, there are some good alternatives that can help you publish on your Mac. Perhaps our favorite comes from Affinity, which is a great alternative to Photoshop, Affinity Photo 2. Its InDesign competitor comes in the form of Affinity Publisher 2, which includes a variety of tools to help you create truly stunning designs. The best part is the price, which is for the great software you get.
Affinity Publisher 2 will set you back $69.99/£69.99, which is a one-off payment with no subscription. An excellent iPad version is also available for $19.99 / £19.99, missing the same chain.
The best value remains the universal licence, which covers all three Affinity products – Designer 2, Photo 2 and Publisher 2 – on all platforms (Mac, iPad and Windows) for $169.99/£169.99 at no additional cost.
Other good options are VivaDesigner, QuarkXpress, and Swift Publisher.
