Tech In Review: Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6: A Productivity And Entertainment Powerhouse

This article first appeared on Digital Edge, The Edge Malaysia Weekly from 27 February to 5 March 2023.

Huawei has always been at the forefront of portable devices such as smartphones and tablets, which use cutting-edge technology to stand out from the competition. Of course, Digital Edge missed the chance to try out the new Huawei MatePad Pro as we couldn't wait to see what the device has in store.

The tablet is said to greatly enhance productivity, creativity and entertainment with its stunning new design, portability, pro-level creativity and professional office experience, making the next generation Huawei MatePad Pro more than just a fashion accessory, an office tool.

After releasing the device, which is equipped with the Huawei M-Pencil (2nd gen) and magnetic smart keyboard, our first impression is that it lives up to expectations for a stylish accessory. Thin and light, at 609g and measuring 6.5mm to 6.7mm thick, this tablet fits perfectly into the aesthetics of our everyday work.

Thanks to NFC (Near Field Communication) and Bluetooth technologies, the tablet connects very easily to the keyboard and M-Pencil, which detect and connect accessories as soon as the tablet is within range. The tablet itself has magnets on the side to hold the pen and keyboard, and if it moves, instructions on how to fix it appear right on the screen.

The keyboard allows you to take notes and write articles in the note-taking application pre-installed on your device. Although the stylus glides smoothly across the screen, it takes a bit more effort to write or draw on the screen. Still, it's a useful feature, especially considering the device's ability to convert handwriting into various text fonts.

We also tested the device's video conferencing feature, which was crisp and clear. Thanks to Huawei's artificial intelligence (AI) noise reduction applied to the eight speakers, background noises such as car driving and cats meowing cannot be heard.

The sound is very clear when watching movies or listening to music. With an eight-speaker design that comes with a choice of treble and bass, smooth sound creates a cinematic atmosphere and makes viewing enjoyable. Thanks to the combination of tweeter and woofer, highs, lows and extraordinary details can be revealed.

Huawei's Stereo Vibe also delivers cinematic quality sound and elevates the experience. All this, plus a 12.6-inch full-screen OLED display, makes streaming the latest series of our favorite streaming platforms even more enjoyable. Please note that this device has achieved the highest level of eye protection in the tablet industry.

This device is also durable. An extra-large 10,500mAh battery with 40W SuperCharge technology that takes just two hours and 10 minutes to fully charge provides 13 hours of 1080p HD video playback and 9 hours of web browsing.

Overall, the Huawei MatePad Pro is a great office companion for assignments and press conferences, as well as virtual meetings. The only limitation is device incompatibility with Google services, because our company uses G-Suite for communication and conferencing. But if you don't trust Google services, it's definitely worth a try.
