We're taking a look at the best TV deals ahead of this weekend's Super Bowl, but there are plenty of great tech deals for those who don't want a major living room update. For example, Apple's AirPods Pro model has dropped to $199, and Amazon is selling a lot of Kindle e-readers. Sonos still charges up to $100 for some soundbars and smart speakers, and Google and Amazon have discounted their top 4K streaming dongles. Our favorite devices from Anker, Beats, Microsoft and SanDisk are also on sale. This week's best tech deals you can grab today.
Apple AirPods Pro
Apple's AirPods Pro are down to $199 again at Amazon and Walmart, the lowest price we've tracked and about $30 less than the average street price of noise-canceling headphones in recent months. We gave the AirPods Pro an 88 in our review last September, and today we're recommending them as "the best for iOS" in our guide to wireless headphones. Call quality and six hours of battery life are good, but sound quality, ANC and Transparency Mode are impressive and still offer plenty of features for easy use with your devices.
Fit Pro Tips
A sportier alternative to the AirPods Pro, the Beats Fit Pro is currently available at Amazon and Walmart for $150. With the exception of Woot's brief dip to $145 last November, this is the lowest price we've seen. For reference, the headset usually costs around $175 in recent months. The Fit Pro is the best choice for workouts in our best wireless headphones guide, and we gave it an 87 at the end of 2021. They have many of the features you get with a set of AirPods, including quick pairing, a Siri speaker. . and find device tracking. It's up to me, but the winged design should provide a more stable ride on the road. Their rich sound should appeal to even the most bass-loving, and they perform best on Android devices. However, the ANC is a step below what you'll get with the AirPods Pro, and the built-in controls are more prone to unexpected bumps.
sound system for sale
Sonos is offering discounts on some home audio products this weekend ahead of the Super Bowl. Deals include a $179 Sonos One smart speaker, a $399 compact Beam soundbar, a $649 subwoofer, and a $799 premium Arc soundbar. Depending on the product, the discount varies from 40 to 100 dollars. While these aren't the lowest prices we've seen, we don't often see discounts on Sonos devices, so it's a good chance to save if you're looking to build a home audio system using the company's products. Mechanism
We reviewed the One, Beam and Arc for £90, £88 and £85 respectively. There are plenty of other smart speakers and soundbars that don't lock you into the same ecosystem, but that's what every Sonos device offers. very clear and balanced sound. , and if you 're willing to buy them, they all work (pretty much) in harmony with each other. Keep in mind that Sonos may be releasing new smart speakers in the coming months, according to a recent report from The Verge . If you don't need a new Sonos One right now, it might be worth the wait.
Google Chromecast with Google TV
Google Chromecast with Google TV is back on sale for $40. That's not the lowest, and we've seen this deal many times since the 4K media player launched in late 2020. All their streaming programs in one place.
Chromecast 4K came in second in our best streaming device guide, and our review gave it a score of 86 to boot. Overall, Roku's $40 4K Streaming Stick, usually available for that price, is easier to navigate for most people, but if you prefer an immersive experience, the Google Stick is a good alternative. . . . you'll also like the more reliable voice search. The device supports all major HDR programs and formats, as well as Dolby Atmos. However, unlike Roku streamers, it doesn't work with Apple AirPlay.
If you're buying an older 1080p TV, keep in mind that the non-4K version of the Chromecast retails for $20, $2 more than this device's record.
Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K max.
Meanwhile, if you're hooked on Alexa, Prime Video, or other Amazon services, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max might be a better choice. It's down to $35 this week, which is another drop we've seen in the past, but it's the lowest we've tracked here. It's Amazon's fastest streaming stick and supports the same HDR apps and formats as the Google and Roku models. Its voice search is also deeper than Roku's. The downside is that Amazon's user interface is more ad-focused and the company tends to prioritize its content and services. But if you live with it or want a streamer that lets you download apps, you can save a few bucks here. For 1080p TVs, the Fire TV Stick Lite is slower, but $20 cheaper.
Anker 622 Magnetic Battery
We've mentioned before that the Anker 622 Magnetic Battery is a great option for those looking for a wireless iPhone battery that works with MagSafe. The device is currently on sale for $45, which is about $10 off its regular retail price and more than $5 off its lowest price. To be clear, a wireless charger like this can't offer the speed or capacity of a traditional power bank, but it can charge the 622 iPhone 14 up to 80% on a single charge. It easily attaches to the back of any MagSafe-enabled iPhone so you can use it on the go, and there's a handy charging stand on the back. If you don't mind trading a bit of finesse for extra juice, the Anker 633 Dual Capacity (10,000 mAh) Magnetic Battery is a great alternative, even if it costs $80 more.
Amazon Kindle For Sale
This week, Amazon discounted some Kindle e-readers. The entry-level Kindle, for example, has dropped to a new low of $75, a $25 discount. The updated Kindle Paperwhite is priced at $105, which is $10 more than its lowest price, but still about $25 less than the device's regular retail price. Children's versions of these e-books are also available, with the Kindle Kids selling for $85 and the Kindle Paperwhite Kids selling for $110. The first is the lowest price and the second is only $5 above the best price.
Last year, Amazon updated the base Kindle to bring it closer to parity with the Paperwhite, increasing the pixel density of the 6-inch screen to the same 300 ppi and adding a USB-C port. It also starts with double the 16GB of storage. If you're looking for the cheapest Kindle possible, this should be a good buy. Still, the Paperwhite is the better device, with a larger 6.8-inch screen, less eye irritation, a water-resistant design, and a more adjustable front light. At the end of 2021, we gave the Signature Edition of the Paperwhite a 97 rating—this option retails for $140, though the upgrades are nice and probably won't be much value for most people.
In any case, the choice of children can bring the greatest benefit. Although these models are aimed at younger readers, they offer the same equipment as the standard models, including a cover, a longer warranty (instead of two years) and no ads on the lock screen as standard. They also offer one year of Amazon Kids+ content if you buy for an actual child.
Apple iPad deals
A number of iPads hit all-time lows this week, including the $500 iPad Air, the $400 10th generation iPad, and the $250 10.2-inch iPad. For the 10th generation iPad and the 10.2-inch iPad, these prices are among the lowest we've seen. The iPad Air is $20 more than its best price, but still about $40 less than retail and $100 less than Apple's MSRP.
You can check out our review of the iPad buying guide, but we think the iPad Air is the best value for most people, offering a sleek, easy-to-use design with a powerful M1 chip and full support for the best Apple accessories. . . . The 10th generation iPad is a good compromise, but its screen is a bit more compromised in comparison and doesn't work with the latest Apple Pencil. The 10.2-inch iPad has the smaller screen of the two and, as a result, the older build, but it's still a great choice for media consumption at this price. Meanwhile, if you want a compact iPad, the iPad mini also sells for $400, although we've seen it around that price a few times.
Apple Pencil (second generation)
Apple's latest Pencil is still $90, which is a dollar below the lowest price we've tracked and $39 below Apple's MSRP. It's not cheap , but we still think the second-generation stylus is the best iPad pen you can buy for digital artists and serious note takers. It still offers system-wide pressure sensitivity on iPadOS, and unlike the original model, it can be attached to the edge of the tablet and charged via magnets. If you're interested, make sure your iPad is compatible first.
Apple Watch SE
The Apple Watch SE 40mm retails for $220 at Target and Best Buy. We've seen it drop to $210 in the past, but this latest discount is still $25 less than the device's regular retail price. Last September, we rated the Watch SE 89, and we think it's the best choice for first-time smartwatch buyers because it offers most of the key features of the most expensive smartwatches on the market. the price.
If you can go further, the flagship Apple Watch Series 8 will add a larger always-on display, a blood oxygen sensor, an ECG monitor and a temperature sensor. It fell to a new low of $329.
Amazon Fire HD 8
The Amazon Fire HD 8 is worth a look as a competent all-day streaming and browsing tablet for less money. It's not as fast or crisp as the larger Fire HD 10 — and the Fire tablet doesn't match the quality of the iPad — but it's light, lasts more than 10 hours on a single charge, and works if you stick to the basics. . Amazon's latest 8-inch tablet is back on sale this week for $60, up $5 from the lowest price we saw on Black Friday. Note that as with Fire tablets, unless you pay extra and have access to the Google Play Store and (official) Google apps, you'll see ads on the lock screen.
SanDisk Extreme Portable Solid State Drive
The 1TB version of the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD retails for $93, just $10 off today's regular price, but still a few dollars off the lowest price we've tracked. If you often have to transfer files between devices, it's worth checking out: its USB 3.2 Gen 2 port ensures fast data transfer, it comes with a five-year warranty, and its rugged construction has an IP55 sealing rating. Like all SSDs, it has no moving parts, so it lasts longer than a traditional hard drive. Competing drives like the Samsung T7 and WD My Passport SSD perform similarly, so the best option is usually the cheapest right now. At the time of this writing, it's SanDisk, but according to Best Buy's product listing, this deal is only expected to last until Friday.
Microsoft Surface Go 2 laptop
The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 configuration with a Core i5-1135G7 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD still costs $600, which is the lowest price we've seen. That's about $175 below the configuration's retail price and about $200 below Microsoft's MSRP. We gave the 12.4-inch laptop an 86 in our review last June and featured it in our best Windows laptops guide. You get a sharper screen and better performance for the money, and the lack of a backlit keyboard is annoying. But the Surface Laptop Go 2's lightweight design is surprisingly ideal for a laptop in this price range, and it's fast and durable enough to work anywhere, anytime.
